The Yakfest that almost wasn't.
On the second night of Yakfest Dave made St. Lucy Soup, a simple yet filling Sicilian favorite, just 2 days after the Feast of Santa Lucia.
Temperature range: 3-68°. Strange weather for this late season Yakfest. Slippery and cold yields, for only an afternoon, as the temperature zoomed up by 60° causing dense fog. Just as rapid was the descent back to cold adding ice to everything.
The rapid icing eventually caused power lines to go down and the cabin lost power for 9 hours. We decided to go to Janoski's for breakfast then come back to pack, but when we returned St. Lucy had miraculously restored power to the cabin! The luck extended to the land of milk and honey as Youngstown State won a playoff game on a play that could only be divine intervention. Praise be!
Chow
Yakfest o' plenty continued. The Old Man made a delicious Cream of Chicken soup, milk shakes with stout and our old favorite, soda bread. Dave prepared puttanesca, the St. Lucy Soup and fried bologna sandwiches. Guy had his hands full with making a Manhattan Clam Chowder, buckwheat pancakes, roasted vegetables and a magnificent lasagna. The Kraken pitched in and made veal brats. Ma Conn not only packed us her delicious cookies, but brownies made their debut.
