Yakfest 55

Raccoon Creek State Park
Lakeside Lodge
October 22-27, 2014

We had a fantastic weekend of weather, the temperature range was 34-68° and autumn gave us days of clear and sunny skies. Though we missed the full color of this year's fall, the trees still had good color and branches full of leaves. After 25 years this Yakfest was the first in October and it looks as though we hope to return next year in the same month.

Unofficially it was the Yakfest of San Marzano tomatoes and pasta. We had the tomatoes and pasta in some form on 4 days. Dishes: Arugula, radicchio & orichette pasta salad (two batches made on different days and included fresh San Marzano tomatoes), puttanesca, and Friday night's pasta sauce (one day early so Buck could enjoy a nice pasta dinner).

delicious Meals included Mark's delicious pot roast, Dave's Puttanesca, Guy's pasta sauce, Kraken's Bratwurst, Mark's Black bean soup, Capicola and provolone sandwiches, Smokies from K & K, and Ma Conn cookies and banana nut bread. Beer from North Country Brewing Company: 4 growlers (2 each) of Emma's Pale Ale and Friar's Porter

The banned in 17 countries Jarts made its Yakfest debut and proved to be a hit. Guy, Dave, and Buck gave 3-handed pinochle a whirl and had fun. Puzzlemania was limited to one Cat puzzle. Good weather allowed us to have fires on three different nights. Clear and dry weather made wood gathering a snap. The Old Man hiked 23 miles over the weekend!

Multimedia: Goodfellas, The Departed, Caddy Shack, The Watchmen, and so much Gaelic Storm that Johnny Tarr paid us a visit.

Attendance Roll: Buck Guy, Mark C. Sean, Vince, Dave, and Paul Conn as the Kraken.
