Yakfest 46

the old prospectorRaccoon Creek State Park
Lakeside Lodge
March 18-22, 2010

The best weather at a Yakfest ever. No better description would be more apt for Yakfest 46. Afer the great weather for YF45, this weekend was even better with temperatures reaching into the lower 70s each day. We met Vince's friend Steve for the first time at breakfast on Yakfest morning and welcomed him to the Yakfest fold. Steve, a nice, laid-back guy, fit in well with our gang. The good weather and high spirits resulted in no TV watching at all despite the March Madness covering the rest of the nation. Buck's phone gave us all the updates we needed. Yes, the Old man forgot pillow again.

"Under the Shadow of the Yoke: the Pathetic story of Paul Conn" will be a new book written for the Kraken. Paul arrived on Friday and left before breakfast on Sunday, speeding home to Youngstown to bear the yoke as soon as possible. Perhaps an intervention will be needed some day to break his deadly addiction to work.

Chow... a big thanks to Claire Bello for preparing the delicious pasta sauce for Saturday's dinner. We had two great soups: ginger-carrot (Mark) and escarole bean minestra (Guy). Mark provided smoked duck breast and homemade sausage as hors d'oeuvres. Guy prepared a breakfast casserole. Using his Cuisanart gadget, Mark made two batches of homemade vanilla ice cream. Ma Conn again graced us with cookies! Thanks!

Attendance list: Vince, Steve, Buck, Sean, Dave, Guy, Mark C. and Paul Conn as the Kraken.
